A downloadable game for Windows

Bootyisland

Welcome to the Bootyisland project page. I'm glad you found it.
To spare you a waste of time: This is a preview and NOT a finished game. If you feel exploratory, read on and I hope you like it.

If you have feedback on how to improve the game, I would be happy to hear about that.

About the Project

Bootyisland is a game that aims to combine the genres City Builder and Action RPG. It is being developed by a single person (me).
So let me introduce myself in two sentences:

Hi! I'm Johannes and I'm based in Hamburg (Germany). First and foremost I'm a programmer, but I also like 3D Modelling and other tasks related to game development.

The assets you can currently see (or hear) are made by myself or from various Asset Packs, but most of them will be replaced later (especially icons... I know ;-) ).
Since there is no funding for the game so far, I am trying to finish it in my free time. This will probably take a while.

State of the Preview

This is a preview which is intended to show the core ideas behind the game. It is in an early state of development, so there is not a lot of content yet and you will probably encounter some bugs, maybe performance issues and some crashes (but hopefully not). Also a lot of functionality will be extended or improved, so if you see something odd happening (like characters sitting next to chairs instead of on them), chances are good that this will be improved later. Especially the combat system requires polishing.

If you're struggling with the combat, you can buy the "Sword of Super Death" from the blue vendor to the left of the player spawn location. I added this for testing purposes and is way too powerful for the final game, but it will make short work of overpowered enemies.

What you can do right now (within the mentioned limits):

* Build your own pirate town

* Explore your Island

* Fulfill quests from your town's inhabitants

* Interact with the world you created

* Customize your Character with equipment found from various sources

What is planned?

There is a bunch of ideas for further features I'm planning on adding to the game. To name a few:

* More buildings and Resources

* Better combination of the Building and Exploration view (i.e. Building unlocks found in treasure chests)

* Fight off Invasions from the British and Spanish armies

* Inhabitants moving to or from the island based on happiness

* More and different Quests

* Treasure hunts on other islands

* Fight creatures known from sailor yarns

* Combat skill tree

* ...

Keybindings and Tutorial

Currently, keybindings are fixed and can't be adjusted. If you are experienced with other City Cuilders and Action RPGs, most of the User Interface should be easy to understand. I'm also planning on adding a tutorial function in game, but until then, here is a brief overview:

You can freely explore the island and the game's functionalities, but I'd advise you to do the main Quest Line. This should introduce you to most concepts of the game.

There are two game modes and you can seamlessly switch between them `TAB` and each mode come with a distinct set of GUI (Graphical User Interface) elements. The main menu can be reached via `ESC`.

Building View

Building View

GUI Elements in the Building view

To move the camera in the Building View, move your Mouse Cursor to the edges of the screen. You can also use the `WASD` keys.

You can also zoom in and out with your scoll wheel or rotate your camera by pressing the scroll wheel and moving your mouse.

To place a building, select the building of your choice and confirm it's position by pressing the `LMB (Left Mouse Button)`. If you're holding the `LMB` before releasing, you can move your mouse to adjust the rotation of the building. You can cancel building by pressing the `RMB (Right Mouse Button)`. Cancelling the build will enable the selection tool in which you can select various objects and see additional details about them.

Oh and in case you're wondering why parts of the island are covered by parchment: You will have to dicover the island in the Exploration View.

In the exploration View, you can move around using the `WASD` keys and by moving your mouse.
You can interact with some characters and objects via `E` button when you're close to them. A prompt will hint you when an interaction is available.

The Inventory (I know, it looks really ugly at the moment) can be toggled by pressing `I`. To equip items, you can Double-Click them, or drag and drop them on the Character Equipment. You can also unequip items by Double-Right-Clicking equipped items.

The markers on your compass can help finding quest objectives.

After downloading, simply unzip the package and run the Bootyisland.exe file in the Windows folder.

If you have already installed the C++ Runtime on your machine the game will immediately start (if you have already played other games on your PC, it is probably already installed). Otherwise, an installation wizard will show. Just follow the installation instructions.
